How this is worked out
A married or a cohabiting couple raising children is two parents; a lone parent is one. 708,775 UK households raising children do not fit either shape (several families sharing a home, or a family living with other adults), and no published table says how many parents live in them. So the figure ships as a range: the low end leaves those households out, the high end counts two parents in each.

Every household release in the UK counts a different base: households in the census route above, household reference persons in Approximated Social Grade. That grade is an England and Wales classification only. Neither NISRA nor NRS publishes it, so there is no Scottish, Northern Irish or UK-wide AB figure. A number without its unit stated next to it is not a usable number, which is the whole reason this tool exists.
